Week 2 Exercise

This week, I looked at different collections of 3D nurbs models, to get a bit of an idea of how they work and how to get a handle on them. One model in partyicular, that stood out to me was one by Siddharth Chari, found here, on the website Sketchfab. The model is of a vintage telephone, made completely using Nurbs. The detail stood out to me, as well as the textures.

For making my own model, I decided to try and make a tophat. It seemed simple enough, and I was still trying to get the hang of working with curves. I drew my initial curve, and edited the points to make it more precise. However, upon rotating it, I found that the head-hole was a bit too small.

I went back and edited the curve, and created a slightly more accurate version. Lookin good!

  1. Nice model. We're going to go over several techniques for creating surfaces this week. The main difference between your model and the example you showed is persistence and a little bit of understanding of how to combine surfaces.
