Week 8 Midterm Feedback

I very much enjoyed seeing everyone's midterm projects, and I thought a lot of people had a lot of really cool ideas. I liked seeing how everyone went about tackling their vision and executing it in the best possible way. I especially liked Alex's project. I liked the little snowman, and I think you're maybe one of the only people to have kind of a bit of character animation in their project, which I know can be difficult. I think that the Snowmen move around well, and the lighting is definitely pretty good for the scene. I think a lot of people might be drawn to a neutral colored light, but I liked the orange light that you used, it looks like it is maybe sunset. I liked the style of the snowmen as well. It's simple, but definitely keeps a style that is consistent with the igloo as well, which I think looked great.

I also really liked Stephannie's project, I thought that the shading looked super nice and polished, and the lighting looked really good as well. I know that the floor is just the default checkerboard, but it looks like a checkerboard tile floor. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or not, but it's a good touch. I also think that the fruit bowl is incorporated well, and looks right in place. If I was going to change anything, I would maybe make the plates look a bit more defined than they are currently. Overall it just looks like pretty realistic scene. Both of these projects are a great inspiration for future work. Great work guys!

Week 2 Exercise

This week, I looked at different collections of 3D nurbs models, to get a bit of an idea of how they work and how to get a handle on them. One model in partyicular, that stood out to me was one by Siddharth Chari, found here , on the website Sketchfab. The model is of a vintage telephone, made completely using Nurbs. The detail stood out to me, as well as the textures. For making my own model, I decided to try and make a tophat. It seemed simple enough, and I was still trying to get the hang of working with curves. I drew my initial curve, and edited the points to make it more precise. However, upon rotating it, I found that the head-hole was a bit too small. I went back and edited the curve, and created a slightly more accurate version. Lookin good!

Week 6 Exercise

 Last week, I was focused on building the bedroom from Yume Nikki, out of NURBS models. I created most of it, enough to get the gist. But the scene needed textures to really come to life. So, I ripped most of the colors that I will be using directly from the game itself, while taking a few liberties. I added an image onto the rug, to make it look like the rug in the game, and I would definitely like to do this on the walls as well, and maybe add some image textures to make it loo similar to the game. Hopefully, I plan on creating some camera animation, and adding a few more lights and flat images onto the scene to bring it to life a bit more.

Final Animation For my final, I expanded upon the scene I created for my midterm. I tweaked some of the bedroom, and added more complex camera animation. I wanted to simulate how it would feel to walk around the original game, but in a 3D space. I had wanted to include a bit of character animation towards the end, maybe with something coming out of the door, but ultimately ran out of time. If I had had more time for this project, I definitely would have wanted to add some character animation and also improved upon the shaders and lighting as well. Self Evaluation: Over the semester, I feel as if I learned a decent amount of things. I had done a little bit of modeling in Blender before, but had never worked with Maya, and have never really done any kind of 3D animation before. I think my 3D animation skills have for sure increased a lot now compared to the beginning of the semester.
